If you\u2019ve Googled a question, it\u2019s likely you\u2019ve seen information in position zero and you just haven\u2019t realized that this is a new feature. Since ranking high is the ultimate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sanctuarymg.com\/seo\/\">SEO<\/a> goal, why wouldn\u2019t you want your content to end up at the very top of the list?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Position Zero?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sanctuarymg.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/position-zero-2.jpg\" alt=\"position-zero-2\" title=\"position-zero-2\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Position zero, also called a \u201cFeatured Snippet\u201d, is the information that shows up in Google Search results before the first result. A featured snippet is a chunk of content that\u2019s extracted from a website that\u2019s shown in response to a user\u2019s question. This is obviously a highly coveted spot to be in on Google Search results because it\u2019s seen as the ultimate resource or answer to the question asked. So how do you achieve position zero?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to Land Your Content in Position Zero<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rank high in search results.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Google chooses from popular content (the first page of search results) for the featured snippet, so be sure your content is ranking at least on that first page, preferably within the first five results. Here are just a few things you can do to rank better:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Improve page load speed<\/li><li>Create new content on your website regularly<\/li><li>Optimize images<\/li><li>Break up content with header tags<\/li><li>Include outbound links<\/li><li>Optimize your site for mobile<\/li><li>Incorporate more keywords<\/li><li>Maintain a good URL structure across your site<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><br>\nFind out what your audience is asking.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Brainstorm a list of questions that your audience is likely asking about your product or service, then type those into Google Search to see who\u2019s currently ranking in position zero. Choose questions that contain the most relevant keywords for your business and work on creating content around those questions, or optimizing content that\u2019s already on your site. For some lower competition phrases to rank for, take a look at the \u201cpeople also ask\u201d section that\u2019s usually just below the featured snippet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sanctuarymg.com\/academy\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/position-zero-3.jpg\" alt=\"position-zero-3\" title=\"position-zero-3\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Create relevant content.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Write landing pages and blog posts centered around a common long-tail keyword. The featured snippets that get used have an exact answer to the exact search typed in, so it\u2019s recommended that you focus on question-form, long-tail keywords or phrases that begin with words like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What is\u2026<\/li><li>How does\u2026<\/li><li>How to\u2026<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can see some great examples of this in the screenshot of the \u201cpeople also ask\u201d section above. As opposed to a keyword, a long-tail keyword or key phrase expands on a single keyword. For example, instead of focusing on \u201cSEO\u201d, you\u2019ll want to drill down further to \u201cimprove SEO on a website\u201d. To make your content relevant for featured snippets, you\u2019ll want to then add in a few words to turn it into a question, such as, \u201cHow to improve SEO on a website.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather than creating brand new content in hopes that it\u2019ll get used as a featured snippet, you might consider reframing your existing content to fit within this framework. Pull a report of the highest trafficked pages on your site, and consider rephrasing it to focus on a question that contains a long-tail keyword.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Format your content so it\u2019s easy to digest.<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If your content is answering a question, make sure that\u2019s obvious! After all, the reason you write content is so that someone else finds it helpful and is compelled to take action. Google will be more likely to display content that\u2019s already formatted in a desirable way.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Content that is likely to be pulled out into a featured snippet would come from a \u201chow to\u201d or FAQ page\u2014any page that has a question and answer format. Consider adding a page like this to your site if you don\u2019t have one already. Here are a few tips on how to format content on that kind of a page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>According to <i>Search Engine Journal<\/i>, \u201cAn SEMRush analysis has shown that most featured snippet result answers are between 40 to 50 words.\u201d Keep answers to your FAQs around 50 words so that it\u2019s even easier for Google to pull your content.<\/li><li>Label each question as a subheading with the question directly below.
